Revenue from import and exports fall by 21% in June

Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has revealed the revenue received from import and export fell by 21% last June compared to the same month of last year.

The statistics publicised by MCS showed the total value of goods imported during June 2019 was USD 214 million, noting the figure fell to USD 136 million in June 2020 which is a decrease of 36%. Meanwhile, the total revenue generated through import duty and other fees also dropped by 12%, from USD 17.27 million in June 2019 to USD 13.7 million in June 2020.

As per the statistics, goods worth USD 21 million were exported in June last year, while goods worth USD 14 million were exported in June this year which is a fall of 33%.

Meanwhile, the vessel movement to the Maldives also decreased last June compared to the same month of last year. In this regard, 64 vessels arrived in June this year, while 79 vessels arrived in the Maldives during the same month of last year. On contrary, 74 vessels departed the Maldives in June 2020, while the number of vessel departures was 92 in the same month of 2019.
