MMA and banks to resume normal services on July 5

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has revealed all the banks in the country will resume normal services on July 5.

MMA and banks have been officially closed since April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with most services provided online. Since May 16, banks have been operating at certain hours on specific days of the week to provide essential banking services. As the country moves forward to the third phase of easing lockdown restrictions, MMA has announced banks would be resuming normal services on July 5.

The central bank has also announced the new operational procedure to be followed when it resumes normal services on July 5. As such, MMA said collection of documents and payments will take place from 0830hrs to 1400hrs on week days. The central bank requested institutions using the Government e-Letter Management System (GEMS) and the public to send in any letters or documents via the designated email for collecting documents.

Furthermore, MMA said while all banks are permitted to resume normal services on July 5, details of the services and hours will be provided individually by the banks.
