President extends partial reopening of government until July 2

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has issued a directive to extend the partial reopening of government institutions until July 2.

Similar to previous directives, government institutions may open their offices from 0900 hours to 1300 hours. Despite the partial reopening, general members of the public are not to be allowed inside any government building.

The directive states government buildings may only be opened within the specified hours, in order to complete essential tasks. Any duties that need to be performed outside of the given working hours should be authorised by the relevant institutional head. In such cases, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) should be informed of the exact nature of the work and the employees attending the tasks. The directive urges all employees who can work from home to do so and encourages institutions to provide services online where possible.

The administration closed all government offices and businesses operating in the Greater Male' Region last March before the first cases of COVID-19 were detected from Male' City on April 15.
