The Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has passed the decision to dismiss all members of Civil Service Commission (CSC), except Fathimath Amira.
During the committee meeting on June 29, the action to be taken following the inquiry into CSC was decided. The committee passed the decision to dismiss 4 members of CSC, which includes President of the commission Aly Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and members Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq. The committee decided against dismissing Fathimath Amira, who is the most recent appointment to the commission.
The committee had already decided to dismiss 4 members of CSC, before Parliamentarian Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq proposed the motion to dismiss Amira along with the other members of the commission for providing the committee with false information during the inquiry. The committee approved the motion to initiate proceedings to dismiss Amira on June 3, while the official review of the motion began on June 8.
The parliament has probed into the actions of CSC members on multiple occasions over delays in commission proceedings and requested written responses from 4 members by February 18. The inquiry mainly focused on unfair dismissal of employees, influence peddling in recruiting permanent secretaries, unjust policies in staff recruitment to the commission and personal issues amongst members of the commission.
As part of the inquiry, the committee also met with cabinet ministers to clarify if the actions of the members hindered government proceedings. The ministers noted the actions of the commission had obstructed many operations within the ministries.
