Maldives Posts Nine Percent Hike as Tourist Arrivals Surge Past 1.4 Million

Maldives tourism continues in its upward trajectory with a nine percent increase as the total arrivals surged past 1.4 million so far this year.

According to the latest daily update report of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, a total of 1,402,715 tourists have visited the Maldives as of 16 August compared to the 1,286,377 tourists during the same period last year.

The figures show that Italy has become the latest country to cross 100,000 tourists to have holidayed in the Maldives so far this year, up five percent from the 95,982 in the same period in 2024.

Italy remains fourth on the list of top source markets which has been dominated by China since the start of the year.

Russia: 166,496 tourists
UK: 128,786 tourists

The figures showed that the globally renowned tourist destination continues to maintain a healthy average daily tourist arrival figure of 6,740 amid efforts to break the record breaking two million tourist arrivals of last year.

The government has set an ambitious target of welcoming 2.3 million tourists to its shores this year.
