No breach of card details of any customers: BML

Bank of Maldives (BML) has confirmed there has been no breach of card details of any of its customers.

BML issued the statement in response to claims on social media that card details of its customers have been breached and made public. The national bank noted merchants and e-commerce merchants around the world are often compromised and as a result card details can appear on the dark web.

Noting the bank works together with its card associations to address any concerns of data compromise, BML revealed it was notified of a potential breach of data by one of its card partners, which may have affected 350 BML issued cards. The bank said the cards have been deactivated, adding it is currently in the process of issuing replacements for the customers.

The national bank confirmed that in cases where a merchant is compromised, its customers are fully protected and will not face any financial loss.
