National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) states the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male’ Region will not be lifted on June 15, although restrictions would be eased.
Speaking at the daily press briefing at NEOC, Dr. Nazla Rafeeg from Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the eased restrictions which will come into effect on June 15 must not be mistaken as the end of the lockdown. The doctor said the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the Maldives has not been eliminated, adding authorities still need the support and cooperation of the public in order to curb the spread of the disease. She urged the public to continue following the instructions of HPA despite the eased restrictions.
Speaking further, Dr. Nazla expressed concern over the actions of some individuals over the past two weeks, after NEOC announced the first phase of easing restrictions. Noting the number of unnecessary trips and gatherings have increased, she urged the public to stay indoors as much as possible in order to keep minimal direct contacts.
The lockdown currently announced in the Greater Male’ Region is set to expire on June 14. NEOC has announced restrictions would be eased from June 15 onwards.
