Public Service Media (PSM) has officially launched the Build, Educate, Advance, Motivate (BEAM) Training Initiative to train youth in the field of media. The training was inaugurated by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ibrahim Waheed.
The BEAM Training Initiative will create opportunities for PSM employees and media workers across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Waheed said the Ministry had held extensive discussions with PSM, which revealed that there was a strong demand among young people and media professionals for such training opportunities.
As part of the launch, PSM signed agreements with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, the Islamic University of Maldives, Avid College and MI College.
"This agreement is very important for the training of media personnel in the Maldives. Until now, much of this work was carried out internally by PSM. However, with the President’s initiative and foresight, we are now able to open these opportunities to people across the Maldives" he said.
Speaking at the ceremony, PSM’s Managing Director Ibrahim Nasreen said media institutes are run across the world under the supervision of public service broadcasters. With the agreement signed with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, PSM will conduct trainings to build people in this field, he said.
Nasreen further noted that the newly signed agreements will refer to PSM’s agreement with the Youth Ministry, and will address both the training needs of PSM as well as the wider requirements of the broadcasting sector identified by the Youth Ministry. These programmes will ensure that training is available nationwide, he added.
Although PSM officially launched the BEAM Training Initiative this week, trainings have been ongoing since April this year. The initiative will provide training opportunities both in the Maldives and abroad.
