Maldivian's cargo flights bring 120 tonnes of supplies

The national flag carrier, Maldivian, has revealed it has carried 120 tonnes of supplies on its cargo freighters to the Maldives.

The flights imported supplies, mostly fruits, vegetable and medical supplies, necessary for the country during the global lockdowns and movement restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic. The national airline said it brought in cargo from Colombo, Trivandrum, Chennai, Bangkok and Dubai.

Maldivian began operations of cargo freighters on March 29. The airline stated it has travelled 15 times to bring large amounts of goods the country needs during the lockdown, as the Maldives largely depends on imported goods.

The airline further revealed it has brought 34 tonnes of goods from Colombo, 30 tonnes from Chennai, 27 tons from Bangkok and 5 tonnes from Dubai. The airline intends to operate more flights to carry cargo to the Maldives.

Maldivian expects to increase the number of flights considering the demand for charters from businesses to bring cargo.
