The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) is planning to digitise its services and automate internal processes.
Speaking on PSM News' ‘Raajje Miadhu’ programme, MIRA’s Director General Administration and Finance Ahmed Shafneez said that one of the key components under MIRA's Strategic Action Plan is to digitise the services provided by the authority.
“Mainly, one of the things we want to do in this strategic plan is to ease the process for taxpayers as much as possible,” he explained.
According to Shafneez, MIRA is currently digitising its systems to facilitate tax payments using modern technology and plans are underway to automate internal processes to make its work more efficient.
He pointed out that much of MIRA’s services have already been automated including information clarification and tax return submissions.
“However in an age of technological advancement, we are already working to establish a system that is more comprehensive than the systems we have now and more convenient for taxpayers,” he added.
MIRA established in 2010 started off with just 40 staff and has now expanded to 300 employees with 18 offices in all corners of the Maldives.
