Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed the demurrage fee on goods will be eased during the lockdown period imposed in the Greater Male' Region.
Speaking in a press conference, CEO Shahid Ali stated MPL and Maldives Customs Service are working to ease the procedures for businesses during the current situation. He added the demurrage fee imposed over delay in good clearance will not be charged during the lockdown period.
During the current period, goods imported mostly include food items, medicine and other essentials items. MPL has advised to hold back importing other items during the lockdown period.
MPL noted importing goods related to tourism and construction sector have decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
