Tourism Ministry to take action against resorts violating Employment Act

Ministry of Tourism has stated action will be taken against the resorts that violate the Employment Act of Maldives.

A statement from the ministry stated it has received reports of employers violating the Employment Act due to the economic repression caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry said the dismissal of employees without due notices, and forcing employees to take no-pay leaves have been part of the complaint reports it has received.

The ministry has confirmed to take action against the resorts which violate the Employment Act, calling all tourist facilities to abide by the local laws of the country. The statement also included reports of employers transferring employees to the airports before tickets to return to their respective countries have been confirmed. The ministry called on resorts not to transfer employees to the airports before their flights have been confirmed.
