Maldives can quarantine or isolate 641 individuals at a time

The government of Maldives has set up facilities to quarantine or isolate 641 individuals at a time.

Speaking at a news conference, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said people with COVID-19 symptoms can now be quarantined and detained in all the atolls following the allocation of the facilities. The government is also trying to increase the capacity of quarantine and isolation facilities in the central region as it currently uses Farukolhufushi and Vilivaru, Mabrook said.

Vilivaru, an island which was previously used as a resort, has been taken by the government to increase the capacity and repurpose it as a quarantine facility. Additionally, the Ministry of Health is negotiating with Hulhule' Island Hotel (HIH) to use it as a quarantine and isolation facility.
