Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has inquired on the possibilities for additional scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students from Brunei. The discussions were held at a meeting held with Minister for Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam Erywan Yusof.
During the meeting held as part of the official visit to Brunei, Minister Shahid expressed the appreciation of the government of Maldives for the scholarships that have been provided by the government of Brunei and explored the possibilities for additional scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei, the ministers discussed various aspects of the bilateral relations between the two countries, including instituting a ministry-level cooperation agreement to help reinvigorate cooperation between the two countries. Foreign Minister Shahid also noted the great importance the government attaches to support and educate people with special needs and developing the social sector of Maldives.
The minister stated the importance of establishing a halal science laboratory in Maldives and requested Brunei's assistance in the field. He also noted confidence that both Maldives and Brunei will continue to work together on international issues of mutual concern.
This is the first time in 21 years a Maldivian minister is visiting Brunei on an official visit.
