President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said the decision of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to compete seperately for local council elections (LCE) is not against the coalition agreement.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge' Convention Centre to officially launch the campaign of candidates from Raa Atoll competing in LCE and Women's Development Committee elections (WDC), President Solih revealed the decentralisation system can only be implemented in its full potential by MDP candidates. The president upheld the efforts of MDP to secure local council seats is not against the coalition agreement or the core principles of the coalition. He said the upcoming elections will provide an opportunity to manage the administrative regions of Maldives as envisioned by the government.
Noting the challenges faced when the government assumed office, President Solih acknowledged there are issues in every corner of the country. He added the judiciary is moving towards the right direction now, highlighting solutions have been found for health, education and social issues.
