PPM has destroyed the decentralisation system every time after gaining power: Nasheed

President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has stated Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has destroyed the decentralisation system on every occasion the party has gained power.

During a campaign event held by MDP in Gahdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll ahead of the upcoming local council elections, Nasheed stated only MDP is capable of implementing a decentralised system of governance in Maldives. He noted the people of Maldives have tested PPM multiple times by granting them power, adding PPM has failed on every occasion. He further stated PPM has actively destroyed the decentalisation system on every occasion the party has gained power.

The event in Gahdhoo was also attended by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, who is a native of the island. Speaking at the event, the finance minister noted MDP has empowered local councils since coming to power through the important amendments brought to the Decentralisation Act. He said the administration has planned important development projects for Gahdhoo, adding the projects cannot be effectively implemented without electing councillors who will support and cooperate with the administration.

The leadership team of MDP is currently on a campaign tour in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The delegation led by Nasheed will visit all islands of the atoll during the trip.
