Parliament of Maldives has asked for public opinion on the nominations submitted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to be appointed as members of Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM). Secretariat of Parliament said opinions on the nominations can be submitted until March 8.
President's Office announced for new membership applications as the term of Ahmed Akram ends on March 23. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih submitted 4 nominations to the parliament to be appointed as members of ECM. While Vice President of ECM Ahmed Akram tops the list of the nominations for an additional term as a member, former vice president Ahmed Fayaz and 2 other nominations complete the list of nominees. The other nominees are Mariyam Haneefa Khalid and Ahmed Mansoor.
The nominations were forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions. Only one of the four nominations will be confirmed as a member of ECM following a vote in the parliament.
The opinions and complaints regarding the four nominations can be submitted via email or letter addressed to the committee.
