Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced 2,435 candidates are competing in the local council elections.
Speaking at a press conference, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef said all application forms submitted seeking candidacy of local council elections and women's development committee elections have been evaluated. ECM revealed 2,435 candidates are contesting in the local council elections, while 1,817 candidates are competing in the women's development committee elections.
Meanwhile, ECM said candidates competing for seats of women's development committee elections from 22 islands have already been elected, as only one candidate competed for those seats.
The local council elections and the women's development committee elections will be held on April 4.
