Discussions held between home ministers of Maldives and India

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has conducted discussions with his Indian counterpart on strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions took place during an official meeting held between Home Minister Imran and Minister of Home Affairs of India Amit Shah in New Delhi yesterday. The two ministers discussed on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, including ways to assist the development of Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The two ministers also spoke on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean in order to ensure the internal security of both nations. In this regard, they discussed on efforts to be exerted to mitigate the threats of terrorism and religious extremism.

During the home minister's visit to India, he has also met with the Director of the National Police Academy of India Atul Karwal, discussing areas where assistance can be provided from the Indian police academy. Minister Imran also conducted discussions with officials from the Gujarat Forensic Science University and the Narcotics Control Bureau of India on ways the institutions can assist Maldives.

Furthermore, the home minister met with the Director General of the National Investigation Agency of India Yogesh Chander Modi to discuss on establishing joint cooperation between the agency and MPS, as well as assisting investigations in Maldives.

The home minister is accompanied on the trip by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Abdul Rahman and Minister of State for Home Affairs Ali Nazeer.
