The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has launched a specialised training programme for staff working at powerhouses in Raa and Baa atolls, aimed at strengthening the capacity of Maldivian employees to operate and maintain newly established renewable energy generation systems.
The programme is an important initiative designed to provide staff with practical skills to operate the diesel, solar PV and battery hybrid systems recently installed across the islands.
According to the Environment Ministry, in addition to employees from the power branches in Raa and Baa atolls, technical teams from the head offices of the State Electric Company (STELCO) and FENAKA Corporation are also taking part in the practical training.
The Ministry said the main objective of the programme is to equip Maldivian technicians with the practical experience and technical skills required to operate the newly introduced modern hybrid energy systems to their full potential and independently resolve the various technical issues that may arise during day-to-day operations.
The Ministry noted that such practical training programmes will help increase the use of environmentally friendly, renewable energy in the islands while significantly reducing the powerhouses’ fuel consumption and reliance on fuel.
It further highlighted that the initiative will make a significant contribution towards providing residents with a more reliable, uninterrupted and sustainable electricity service.
