Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked the Parliament of Maldives to seek the USD 28.75 which was spent from the parliament budget by Speaker Mohamed Nasheed for programmes not included in the Southern Seminar held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in August 2019.
Upon investigating a complaint filed to ACC, the commission asked the parliament secretariat to seek the additional amount which was spent by Speaker Nasheed for his trips to Addu and Fuvahmulah, which were not included under the agenda for the seminar. ACC asked the parliament to notify the commission after seeking the amount back to the state.
Speaking at today’s sitting, Speaker Nasheed expressed concern that ACC found an issue with such an amount. He also sought the opinion of parliamentarians on the decision by ACC.
It is understood the additional USD 28.75 was spent for the ticket of the speaker’s bodyguard, after the ticket fare had gone up.
