Committee requests written responses from 4 CSC members

Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions requests 4 members of Civil Service Commission (CSC) to send written responses to the parliament before February 23.

President of the Civil Service Commission Dr. Aly Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed, Members Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq have been asked to submit their response regarding parliaments probe into their actions. Chair of the committee Rozeyna Adam said a report will be forwarded to the floor once their statements have been recorded and evaluated.

Five cases of the four members have been investigated by the parliament including unfair dismissal of employees, influence peddling in recruiting permanent secretaries, unjust policies in staff recruitment to the commission and personal issues amongst commissioners.

The committee also met with ministers as part of the investigation to clarify whether the acts of the commissioners interfered with the administration. The ministers remarked that the acts of the commission caused delays in delivering projects and pledges of the government. They further remarked the management of the ministries are also affected and it causes delays in decision making.

Following the meeting held with ministers, a decision was made by the committee to remove four sitting members of CSC.
