Civil Service Commission (CSC) has requested at the parliament for an opportunity to answer the claims and concerns raised by cabinet ministers.
When summoned to Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions, the cabinet ministers raised concerns there are delays in efficiently completing tasks due to the arrangements made by CSC. Following the meeting, the committee proposed to remove four sitting members of CSC, including its president.
Responding to the complaints, CSC expressed grave concern over the matter. CSC said it has been functioning in accordance with laws and regulations to fulfil its mandate. The statement noted CSC provide cooperation and support required by cabinet ministers and institutions at all times. However, the statement said civil servants required by government offices and authorities have not been provided, due to the financial situation of Maldives.
CSC highlighted several challenges are faced in seeking staff as the salary and wages are not sufficient when compared to living expenses. The commission also stated there are difficulties in maintaining the disciplinary guidelines of staff due to the political situation in the country.
The committee decided to dismiss President of CSC Dr. Alee Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and members Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq.
