Japan donates 10,000 surgical masks to Maldives

The Government of Japan has donated 10,000 surgical masks to Maldives.

The masks donated by Japanese companies were handed over by Chargé d'Affaires of Japanese Embassy in Maldives Koji Kaneko to Minister of State at Foreign Ministry Ahmed Khaleel.

The face masks were released in two batches, with the first batch of 1,000 masks donated by Yamaki Company Limited handed over on February 2 and the second shipment handed over on February 4. The Japanese private companies donated the masks as part of the efforts to curb the recent outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Addressing the ceremony, State Minister Khaleel highlighted the Japanese government always assists Maldives in times of need and distress.

Although no positive cases of coronavirus have been found in Maldives, necessary precautionary measures are being taken to avoid an outbreak.
