Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated amendments need to be brought to the procurement policies followed by government offices and authorities.
Speaking at the function held to inaugurate the efforts to compile a procurement policy for Life Cycle Costing, the environment minister said new policies would benefit the state and the people. The minister said new policies would ensure the state purchases quality equipment, adding the country needs to identify global best practices. Noting public finances should be utilised productively, the minister expressed inadequate procurement policies play a role in wasting resources and have negative impacts on the environment.
Compiling a procurement policy for Life Cycle Costing is included in the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) of the administration. Officials from government offices and authorities, National Tender Board and Maldives Energy Authority are involved in compiling the new procurement policy.
