Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz has been dismissed from his position. The commissioner was informed of his dismissal through a letter sent by the President’s Office today.
Commissioner Munaz has been dismissed at a time he has been severely criticised for the continuous discord in prisons. However, Munaz tweeted today that he was removed from office after certain members of the government coalition failed in their attempts to create chaos in prisons.
Abdulla Munaz had served in Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for 24 years. He joined Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Services as a Superintendent in 2011 before being appointed as the Commissioner of Prisons.
Following the dismissal of Munaz, President’s Office has appointed Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu as the new Commissioner of Prisons.
