Revenue from import and export duties increase in December 2019

The revenue generated from import and export duties has increased by 10% in December 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.

According to statistics publicised by Maldives Customs Service, the state received USD 23.36 million as import and export duties which is an increase of 10% compared to the USD 21.29 million received in December 2018. Furthermore, Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value of goods imported increased by 4% in December 2019 compared to same period of 2018.

In December 2018, goods worth USD 271.70 million were imported to Maldives, while goods worth USD 284.67 million were imported in December 2019. Statistics also showed most of the imports to Maldives were from China, UAE and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, most of the exports from Maldives were to Thailand, Germany, France and UK. Major exported commodities include various types of fish products.
