ECM sets electoral constituencies of Kulhudhuffushi City

Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has set the electoral constituencies of Kulhudhuffushi City for the upcoming local council elections.

Kulhudhuffushi has been divided into six main electoral constituencies, which are the north, west, north-central, south-central, south-west and south-east. ECM also drew lots to select the two constituencies which will be allocated for women in the Kulhudhuffushi City Council. In this regard, the north-central and south-central constituencies were drawn to be represented by women.

During the function held to announce the electoral constituencies of Kulhudhuffushi, Vice President of ECM Ahmed Akram shared the details of the voting process for the local council elections. Akram said a single ballot paper will be used to vote for all the positions in the council. However, he said a separate ballot paper will be used to vote for candidates running for women's development committee.

ECM has publicised the provisional report of how the electoral constituencies of Kulhudhuffushi was finalised. ECM also provided opportunity to file complaints on the report and to suggest names for the electoral constituencies.

Kulhudhuffushi was designated as a city from January 1, 2020 onwards.
