NCTC discusses strengthening policies on recruiting Huffaz

Radicalisation Committee of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and relevant authorities have met to discuss ways to strengthen recruitment of Huffaz from other countries to pray Tarawih prayer in the month of Ramadan.

The topics discussed include establishing checks to ensure the people recruited adhere to the practices in Maldives and the Islamic Unity Code of the countries in addition to identifying whether they are properly trained.

At the meeting, the parties also discussed approaches to increase responsibility of other authorities and empowering city, atoll and island councils in order to observe and supervise them. The participants also discussed ways to better utilise the people in Maldives who have memorised the entire Quran.

The purpose of the meeting was to better prepare for and discuss the concerning issues in time for the coming Ramadan, according to NCTC. Seven government authorities attended the meeting organised by the sub-committee of NCTC which includes Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Services (MPS), Maldives Immigration and NCTC.
