The government will reject certifications from unlicensed aviation security courses, the Ministry of Defence has said amid mounting concerns over such unlicensed programmes.
The Directorate of Aviation Security Administration (DASA) is under the Ministry of Defence, which drafts safety and security rules and regulations for the civil aviation sector.
A circular issued by the Ministry expressed concern over the recent conduct of civil aviation security courses by some private agencies without obtaining the required permits.
The circular, signed by the State Defence Minister Muaz Haleem reminded that the National Civil Aviation Security Training Policy outlines the required training and permits to conduct such courses. The Ministry said that training centers for aviation security personnel in Maldives and their instructors must be licensed under the policy.
However, some companies operating in the aviation industry are conducting such training programmes without obtaining the required permits, the Ministry said, adding that certification awarded through unlicensed programmes will be rejected in the future.
The circular has been sent to airport operators, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Aviation Security Command (AVSCOM).
