Supreme Court of Maldives has resumed work after recess with newly-appointed justices.
Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan, Justice Aisha Shujoon and Justice Husnu Suood presumed over in the first hearing of the court after it resumed. The first hearing involved a drug case submitted in 2012.
As the top court resumes after recess, it has scheduled to carry out cases that have been long-standing. The court has published the schedule of the hearings for the next two weeks.
The Supreme Court also resumes with the new judges appointed to the court. As Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan and Justice Husnu Suood were appointed during the recess, there have been no hearings since their appointment.
Supreme Court currently has 5 judges, 2 short of a full bench. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sought counsel of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on the appointment of former Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain as a justice to the apex court.
