Chile abuse and neglect will not be allowed: Gender Ministry

Ministry of Gender and Family has assured the public it will not allow or tolerate acts of parents and families that affect physical, psychological and social wellbeing of children. In a statement issued regarding the ongoing Asseyri operation by security forces, gender ministry said it will closely monitor the public to ensure families take responsibilities mandated to them under the Protection of Child Rights Act.

The role of ministry in the operation is to ensure the rights of children, women and individuals in delicate situations are observed in accordance with the international agreements and treaties participated by Maldives, and to take necessary and preventive measures, the statement added.

The ministry revealed under the operation, the ministry has monitored 9 households and observed the situation of 20 children under the age of 18 to ensure their basic rights were not violated. Meanwhile, 4 children have been vaccinated after the visits while one child has been taken under state case upon inspection, after observing the child has no protection from the family, stated gender minister.

The ministry concluded the statement by thanking the public, NGOs, local councils and other government and public stakeholders in carrying its duties.
