Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated the amount of renewable energy usage needs to be increased by 2023 to ensure 30% of the energy sources are renewable energy. The planning minister made the remarks at a function held to launch the integration of renewable energy hybrid systems into power systems in 48 islands.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister described the integration of hybrid systems as a milestone achievement of the energy sector of Maldives. While the hybrid system will be installed in every inhabited island, it is expected the launched project will produce 21.5 megawatt of energy.
Moreover, the minister expressed the amount needs to be augmented in the coming years. The minister noted rather than producing energy from heat, other methods have been introduced in various parts of the world adding since Maldives is a warm country, solar energy production is the best option.
