Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has decided to sign a maritime agreement with Turkey.
The decision was made in a meeting held between the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Maldives Aishath Nahula and her Turkish counterpart Mehmet Cahit Turhan. The two ministers met at the sidelines of International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) General Assembly currently ongoing in London.
The two countries discussed to collaborate on maritime affairs and how to foster maritime relations between the countries. The ministers also discussed seeking assistance on air and land travel. Minister Nahula said an important aim of the Maldives is seeking assistance in maritime consultancy and human capital development.
At the IMO General Assembly, Minister Nahula delivered her speech in Maldivian language, highlighting the importance to maritime sector to Maldives. The minister said the administration considers the sector important to the development of Maldives, noting the decision to include it in the Strategic Action Plan (SAP). She said the administration aims to further strengthen maritime policies to provide a quality service to meet the demands of the people.
