Maldivian begins scheduled flights to Maafaru

The national airline, Maldivian, has commenced regular flights to the newly built Maafaru International Airport.

The airport is built with a grant of USD 60 million from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and has a 2200 meter long and 40 meter wide runway. The tests for both local and international flights at Maafaru Airport were completed during October last year.

The airport is designed to cope with the largest air buses including A380 super jumbo jets. The government has recently decided to expand the airport runway and has concluded Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the project.
