Minister Highlights Role of Young Khatheeb Programme in Shaping Nation’s Islamic Identity

The Young Khatheeb Programme is designed to play a vital role in preserving the nation’s Islamic identity, the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said.

Speaking at a special ceremony held to present certificates to the students who completed the third round of the Young Khatheeb Training Programme, the Minister said the initiative was launched under President Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for capacity building and intellectual development, as first outlined in the President’s inaugural address.

Dr Shaheem praised the graduates and imparted valuable advise to the students. He described their chosen path as noble, and emphasised the role of a khatheeb as one of high honour. Stating that young khatheebs are setting good examples for the society, the Minister urged the participants to remain on the same path and continue to serve as exemplary figures, and work to develop their skills in the field. The Minister also urged the graduates to encourage more youth to pursue careers in this field.

The Minister highlighted the positive community response and said it es heartening to witness the warm welcome extended to to the youth by the residents of their respective home islands upon the completion of the programme, and entrusted with leading large congregations such as Eid prayers.

A total of 269 participants completed the third round of the Young Khatheeb Training Programme and received their certificates. This brings the total number of certified khatheebs to 503. The Ministry aims to train 1,000 young khatheebs within five years.
