Ministry of Islamic Affairs has contracted Avi Technology Private Limited to install an air-conditioning system using renewable energy at Masjid-ul-Qufraan in Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll.
In a ceremony held at Islamic ministry, the contact was signed by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Zahir and Hussain Yasir from Avi Technology. The project must be completed within 8 days at a cost of USD 48,547.
The government aims to air-condition 80% of the mosques with renewable energy. The government has now installed air-conditioners and solar panels in Kunburudhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll as well as in Gemanafushi, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and has been looking for workers to connect electricity to the system as part of the initiative. The government has allocated USD 977,198 for the initiative from the State Budget.
Under the first phase of the project to install air conditioning system using renewable energy, 10 mosques have received permit from the President’s Office to conduct the projects.
