Maldives strengthens air connectivity with Vietnam amid peak tourism season

In line with the peak tourism season in the Maldives, Vietnam’s budget airline VietJet is scheduled to start flights between the Male’ City and Ho Chi Minh City. The flights are to start this coming December.

VietJet is arranged to have three flights per week. In this regard flights would be arranged every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and an airbus A320 would be utlised for the flights.

The flights will start on December 5th. the new route taken by the airline will be an extension to the route already being taken to Colombo city from Ho Chi Minh City.

According to air travel experts, the flights can potentially bring more tourists from Southeast Asia to the Maldives. The tourism ministry has released statistics that Vietnam is currently ranked 65th in terms of visito arrivals to the Maldives.

In the previous year, 2,813 tourists have visited the Maldives from Vietnam. Compare to the 2,916 tourists that visited the Maldives in 2024, this is a slight decrease. Official statistics show that up till August show that 2,001 tourists from Vietnam have visited the Maldives this year.

In an effort to promote the launch f the new route, VietJet has established a special promotion from 8th to 10th October. Under the 'Golden Days' sale the airline is releasing tickets in the economy class with zero fare.

According to officials and experts in the tourism sector, VietJet expanding their flight services to the Maldives will give opportunities to further expand the Maldives tourism market in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries.
