Parliament passes to appoint Fuad Thaufeeg to ECM

Parliament of Maldives has passed to appoint Fuad Thaufeeg as a member of Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM). The appointment was passed with votes from 70 parliamentarians.

President Solih nominated 10 individuals to be appointed to the electoral body. He prioritised Fuad Thaufeeg, current member of ECM Amjad Musthafa, Hassan Nazim and Mariyam Haneefa Khalid ahead of the other nominations. The president submitted nominations for the position currently held by Amjad Musthafa whose term concludes on November 24.

Fuad Thaufeeq has served a number of years at the ECM and was the President of ECM when he was dismissed from the position by the Supreme Court of Maldives. The court also issued a 6 month jail sentence on him in 2014.
