Ambassador of Maldives to the UK Dr Farah Faizal meets with The Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon.
The meeting between Ambassador Faizal and Minister of State for the Commonwealth, United Nations and South Asia The Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon focused on the continued good bilateral relations between Maldives and the UK and also the good relations with the rest of South Asia. They also discussed cooperation particularly on issues of Climate Change and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the lead up to COP2020 in the UK.
The ambassador also raised the subject of Maldives fish products currently being taxed in the UK under EU regulations and the need to discuss a bilateral agreement following Britain's exit from the EU. The ambassador thanked the Minister for UK's continued support to the Maldives in its efforts to re-join the Commonwealth and expressed her hope that this should happen soon. Other areas discussed included cooperation in relation to counter-terrorism measures and the need to continue good democratic practices.
