JSC warns Judicial Council over amendments

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has warned disciplinary actions against complicit judges should the Judicial Council decide to disregard and violate the amendments made to the Judicial Service Act. The judicial watchdog announced it had made the decision in an emergency session.

Supreme Court has announced Judicial Council's decision to arrange a meeting. The Judicial Council, which includes the Supreme Court judges, met to discuss the amendments on legal practices and proceedings.

After its emergency session JSC said the Supreme Court does not support in carrying out the mandated responsibilities. In addition, JSC raised concerns regarding the emergency meeting of the Judicial Council the Supreme Court has arranged on a Friday in the course of the long weekend.

The new amendments to Judicial Service Act transferred Department of Judicial Administration under JSC, which was previously administered by the Supreme Court. Additional amendments include granting sole authority for JSC to probe judges while no other stakeholder can question decisions made.
