President confers National Awards of Honour, and Recognition

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has presented the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition. The awards were presented to the honourees at the special ceremony held to mark the National Day of Maldives.

Five honourees received the National Award of Honour this year, which included Late Dr Afrasheem Ali for his contributions towards Islamic awareness and Islamic education, Late Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari for his contributions in the field of Islamic knowledge and education.

Further, National Award of Honour was also conferred to Mohamed Waheed in the area of Dhivehi literature in promoting Dhivehi language, Sayyid Ali for his contributions to sports in sportsmanship and sports development and Late Sayyid Hassan for his contributions in the area of sports in sportsmanship and sports development.

Meanwhile, 21 honourees received the National Award of Recognition this year.

The recipients for were selected by the National Awards Committee, an organisation constituted by the president to determine recipients for the prestigious awards. The awards were presented in 33 categories and recipients were determined as per the criterion published earlier in the Government's Gazette.

Speaking at the function, President Solih expressed his heartfelt felicitations to the recipients of the National Awards.
