President's Office has revealed Shazail Siyam has been suspended from his tasks as the Managing Director of Maldive Gas Private Limited.
Speaking to PSM News, Spokesperson at President's Office, Chief Communications Strategist Ibrahim Hood, confirmed Shazail Siyam was suspended amid allegations of corruption against him. The spokesperson said the decision was made following the complaints received to the online portal established at the President's Office to report acts of corruption, as part of the Zero Tolerance to Corruption policy of the administration.
Hood explained the complaints include claims Shazail has misused his powers and authority as a government official to benefit himself and others. He added Shazail will be suspended until the completion of the investigations to the allegations.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Committee on State-Owned Enterprises is also investigating allegations that Shazail had sanctioned purchases for Maldive Gas from a more expensive supplier.
Shazail has served as a deputy minister at Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and Ministry of Tourism during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
