Mariculture to be made an income earning activity

Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed has stated the administration has a deep interest in making mariculture an income earning activity to the state.

Speaking to inaugurate Project Completion Review Workshop under Mariculture Enterprises Development, Fisheries Minister Zaha explained a significant work has been completed under the project. The administration is also working to sustain mariculture, according to Minister Zaha.

The one-day workshop organised by Ministry of Fisheries, Marine resources and Agriculture is funded by a loan from International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The purpose of the workshop is to create and develop a mariculture sector that generates income to state.

Project Completion Workshop it organises evaluates the work Mariculture Enterprises Development implemented in the past year and discusses approaches to overcome challenges in implementing the project.

The ministry said 28 participants of the workshop include stakeholders from mariculture sector who actively carry out activities of mariculture, council staff from Isdhoo Kalaidhoo and Dhanbidhoo in Laamu Atoll where the project was conducted and representatives from companies in the business of aquaculture of sea cucumber.
