MNDF completes assessment on facilities storing chemicals

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed the assessment on facilities storing chemicals in Male' City has been completed. MNDF said the assessment was conducted from September 22-25.

The defence force said discussions are underway with relevant authorities regarding the findings of the assessment. However, MNDF did not reveal any further information regarding the assessment. The assessment was conducted to identify facilities storing chemicals in residential areas in the capital city.

Previously, MNDF has revealed there are 126 facilities storing chemicals in Male' City, out of which 83 are in residential areas. The government has decided to move these facilities from residential areas to Thilafushi to ensure public safety.

A tragic fire on September 20, which originated in a chemical storage facility, destroyed 7 residential buildings and 4 storage facilities, killing a 46-year-old woman.
