Officers involved in Rilwan's case dismissed from police

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has dismissed two officers involved in the abduction and the murder case of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.

However, speaking at a press conference, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed revealed the two officers were not dismissed regarding their involvement in trying to forge Rilwan's passport in an attempt to make it look like he travelled to Syria and died in the civil war. Hameed said the two officers were dismissed when the police disciplinary committee found them guilty of receiving finances from former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. He added the officers received bribes from Adeeb during 2017.

Rilwan was abducted, murdered and thrown to the sea by extremist elements in August 2014, according to Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.
