Tourism sector to see revolutionary changes next year

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has pledged revolutionary changes in the tourism industry next year.

Speaking to media at the Maldives Job Fair 2019, Minister Ali Waheed explained the findings of research carried out this year will be implemented next year and the sector will see revolutionary changes with new changes implemented. He highlighted the introduction of minimum wage would also bring about positive changes. He explained one of the challenges in the sector is the lack of locals getting recruited in the senior positions in resorts.

The tourism minister revealed the research carried out by the ministry to identify reasons for various issues including the lack of locals in senior positions have provided the ministry with actions for the future. He believes the implantation of the actions will be massive for the locals working in the sector.

Ministry of Tourism has arranged a job fair at Farukolhufushi to showcase job offers and internship opportunities at resorts.

The fair offers over 500 job opportunities and more than 100 scholarships and internship opportunities. The fair will run from September 27-29.
