Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has said Maldives is proud to have been one of the first countries to join the Chinese Maritime Silk Route Agreement.
Speaking at a ceremony held in Kurumba Maldives Resort, Minister Aslam highlighted the close relations between the two nations. The minister further stated China have become the biggest economic partner in the developmental projects conducted in Maldives. He also noted the assistance and support Maldives receive from china in carrying out development projects.
Minister Aslam applauded China for the assistance Maldives have received in developing infrastructure, including the expansion of Velana International Airport (VIA), housing projects, development of Sina-Male' Bridge and other development projects. He also highlighted the high number of tourists Maldives receive from China.
The planning minister accepted and appreciate the role China plays in Maldives national development. He said he expects the strong relationship between China and Maldives to continue under the administration President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Speaking at the function, Ambassador to Maldives from China Zhang Lizhong stated the relationship between the countries has reached new heights and assured continued support in developmental projects in Maldives. The ambassador remarked the exemplary relationship between the two countries was also evident during recent visit to China by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
During the function held to mark its 70th National Day, the Chinese Embassy presented Vice President Faisal Naseem with a plaque.
Maldives established diplomatic ties with China on October 14, 1972.
