Maldives, on Wednesday, signed an air travel agreement with the government of Bahrain.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Maldives on the side-lines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) General Assembly in Montreal, Canada. Minister of Transportation and Telecommunication Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Bahrain.
The agreement was signed under the Memorandum of Understanding recognised between Maldives and Bahrain on January 18, 1995. While the two countries have signed the agreement, Bahrain’s national airline, Gulf Air, has requested Maldives to start operations on October 28. The airline plans to operate 6 flights a week via Male’-Bahrain and Male’-Colombo-Bahrain routes.
Maldives have now established air travel agreements with 47 courtiers with 29 airlines from 21 countries operating flights to Maldives.
