Vice President discusses Islamophobia and religious extremism with relevant authorities

Vice President Faisal Naseem has discussed ways to deal with Islamophobia and religious extremism in Maldives with the relevant authority officials.

During the meeting held at the President's Office, Vice President Naseem met with the special committee assembled by the president on the advisement of the cabinet to tackle and find a solution to the uprising issue on religious criticism targeted towards the Islamic faith. Topics of discussions covered in the meeting include counter-terrorism and challenges in maintaining a religiously enduring society in Maldives.

In the meeting, the members of committee shared information and latest updates in regards to the efforts carried out by the relevant authorities. The committee members and the vice president highlighted difficulties faced by the authorities in dealing with such individuals were due to the current laws and pressed on the need to amend the law in question. The vice president emphasised on the importance of creating and upholding a tolerant society.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Defence, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Higher Education, Minister of Youth Sports and Community Empowerment, Commissioner of Police and Chief of Staff at the President's Office.
